How To Change Text In Legend On Excel For Mac
When I double-click on the legend then a formatting window appears, which lets me change the font, colour etc. But not the actual text. The legend appears to the right of a graph in the middle of the sheet. What Excel is doing is concatenating the text in A2, B3, C4, and D5 to create the legend text. I think it's pretty cool that they knew to do that, but in this case (and in my much more complex real sheets), I just want the text in D5 as the default, with the ability to edit it to whatever I want. The Mac version of Excel has the same options for creating and editing a legend as the Windows version does, but the process for adding the legend is different. 1 Click the chart with the missing legend to reveal the Chart Layout tab, and then click on that tab to view the Chart Layout ribbon. Changing a Legend in Mac 2008 In previous versions of Excel for Mac, when you inserted a chart into a spreadsheet, as in 2008, it gave the generic Series 1, Series 2, etc. I used to click on it, change the pointer to a cursor, and change it to 'Rainfall in Inches', or whatever the series represents.
Microsoft Excel charts include legends by default. You can delete the legend or change the settings so that it isn't inserted when the chart is created, but doing so can make the chart difficult for others to read, especially if it contains many data points. If you decide that you need a legend after all, you can manually add one to your Excel chart. I find that if I have one column (A) of labels and a second column (B) of labels and I select both and create a pie chart that way, it uses column A for the legend labels and column B for the data. My spreadsheet is more complicated. It is one that grows columns to the right-hand side over time. The data is separated from the labels in the first column and only certain data values in the columns(totals) are used in the pie chart, not the whole column(for instance M5, M10, M15).
